Goal: To become a pleasant, functioning region
The areas in the Regional Land Use Plan are reserved for housing, services and industry, recreation and conservation purposes. There are also areas reserved for traffic routes, data communications, energy management and water and sewage. The Regional Land Use Plan is a general plan of land use in the region and of the regional and urban structure, which extends into the next 10-30 years. The Regional Land Use Plan ratified in 2009 is legally valid in Central Finland.
The Regional Land Use Plan is supplemented by phased Regional Land Use Plans intended for one or more themes. The first phased Regional Land Use Plan was drawn up for the waste management center in the Jyväskylä region.
The second phased Regional Land Use Plan regulates the conservation of ground water and the use of rock material. The purpose of the scheme is to safeguard sufficient amounts of rock material for construction and at the same time to protect valuable rock, esker and moraine areas.
The third phased Regional Land Use Plan pertains to peat producing areas and swamps and the flora and birdlife in those areas and the areas for possible wind power.
The fourth plan updates the areas used by the military where there is excessive noise and areas for commercial service networks and recreation.
